Typewritten ephemera from the 1868 US presidential election in favor of Ulysses S. Grant for president, and Schuyler Colfax for vice president, and calling them "Tanners." References General Simon Bolivar Buckner, General Robert E. Lee, and General John E. Pemberton, all ex-Confederate generals, who can attest to the candidates ability to "Tan old Democratic hides."
