Abstract:
San Francisco Chronicle feature on the discovery of ancient redwoods alive in China is subtitled "Science makes a spectacular discovery" and "Story of a tree whose family lived with the dinosaurs." The article describes U.C. Professor Ralph Chaney's trip to see the dawn redwood, or metasequoia, in the Szechwan province of China in 1948, and includes descriptions of the people and features of the region as well as of the redwoods. Typescript contains an introduction, a series of dispatches, and a biographical sketch of Dr. Ralph W. Chaney.
