The Thomas Middleton China Marines Collection contains a photograph album along with loose photographs and ephemera that document Middleton's service in Peking and Tientsin after World War II. Photographs include both personal photographs and commercially sold photographs, including sets from Jung Chen Photographic Studio. Photographs include rickshaws, statues, bridges, street scenes, and the Great Wall of China. There are also images of military airplanes and mostly unidentified servicepeople. There is a large group portrait of Platoon 599 at Parris Island, South Carolina in December 1945. Ephemera includes identification cards, greeting cards, and insignia. The materials document daily experiences of China Marines following the War, and are arranged chronologically.

Thomas Middleton joined the United States Marines from Pennsylvania. He served with Co D, 2/1, 1st Mar Div, in Peiping and Tientsin, primarily on airfield security duty.
