The Julia De Souza Gusek Collection consists of a photo envelope from the Burr Photo Company in Shanghai, as well as sheet music for "Good-Bye Shanghai," a fox trot song written by Howard Johnson and Joseph Meyer in 1921.

Biographical / historical:

Julia Maria De Souza Gusek was born March 22, 1928 in Shanghai, China. She attended Public and Thomas Hanbury School for Girls, where she became close friends with Zoya Shlakis. She immigrated to the United States as a young adult and was active in Old China Hands reunions. She met her husband Edward Gusek while working at the Palo Alto Bullocks department store. They married in 1978 and lived in Mountain View, California. Gusek passed away on May 3, 2025 in Saratoga, California.
