1 Box contains: Cartoon 1: “Hi, my name is Morton and I’ll be serving you. Foster here will be your cook.” 7” x 9” in black frame, graphite pencil drawing with sepia wash. Cartoon 2: “Hasn’t taught me a new trick in years. He may be too old.” Approximately 11”x14” matted in 16” x 19” black frame. Graphite pencil black and white drawing. Cartoon 3: “Mondays at the Metropolitan.” Approximately 12” x 15” in matted 14.5” x 18.5” black frame. Graphite pencil and water color. Book: Paperbound 8.5” x 11” book, Beauty Love & Looking Good by Rip Matteson, Lulu.com publisher, 2010. Handwritten note on 1st page “To Barbara and Max [Tadlock], Beautiful People Filled with Love! Rip.” 50 small color watercolor sketches and quotations on 4.25” x 5.5 “ paper. Some images are in the book above and some are not. One framed certificate of recognition to Max Tadlock for becoming a Professor Emeritus at Monterey Peninsula College. Silver wood frame is approximately 14” x 16.5”.

Biographical / historical:

Richard V. (Rip) Matteson founded the Monterey Peninsula College Art Department in September 1949 and worked at MPC until September 1964 when he resigned to take a position as Dean of Instruction at Peralta College in Oakland. Through his career at MPC, Matteson held a variety of different positions.

Acquisition information:
The collection was donated to the Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) Library by Barbara and Max Tadlock in 2013. Max Tadlock was MPC President from 1980-1985.
