Scope and content:: Many public records of the governmental entities in the county are housed in the Doris Foley Library for Historical Research. The collection includes volumes and/or microform of deeds and property tax assessments, maps, voter registrations, civil, criminal, and district court proceedings, naturalizations, probate indexes and cases, indexes to births, marriage, and deaths.
Biographical / historical:: Nevada County, formed in 1851, played a large role in California's Gold Rush history and development. The area has been a continuous crossroad for travelers in America's Westward migration, for immigrants, and for visitors such as future notables Mark Twain and Herbert Hoover. Records allow for in-depth research into family history, house history, and the myriad of 19th and 20th century details that reveal the growth of a unique community.
