This collection contains 2 manuscripts and 4 scrapbooks from the Imperial Valley Cactus and Succulent Society from 1961-1985. Originally named “Fun and Sun Cacti and Succulent Club” in 1961, in 1962 the club became affiliated with The Cactus and Succulent Society of America Inc. and changed its name to the Imperial Valley Cactus and Succulent Society. The society disbanded at the end of 1984 due to lack of interest and officers by member consensus. Each scrapbook contains documentation of the society. Manuscripts #1 and #2 both consist of bylaws, minutes of each meeting by date, lists of memberships/officers by year and ephemera material such as letters and flyers. Scrapbook #1 is labeled “ Records- (Minutes, By Laws, Membership lists) Imperial Valley Cactus and Succulent Society 1961-1974” and is 104 pages and scrapbook #2 is labeled “Cactus and Succulent Society” and is 181 pages while also including the final cashiers check made out to The Cactus and Succulent Society of America Inc. Scrapbook #1, scrapbook #2, scrapbook #3 and scrapbook #4 consist of member meeting sign-ins for each meeting by date and ephemera material. Scrapbook #3 is from 1961-1967 (39 pages) and includes bylaws, newspaper clippings, meeting notices, photographs, cartoons and postcards pertaining to the society. Affiliation certificates from The Cactus and Succulent Society of America Inc. from 1962-1967 are also included. Scrapbook #4 is from 1967-1971 (32 pages) and includes meeting notices, programs, maps, letters, newspaper clippings, and revised bylaws. Inside are also affiliation certificates from The Cactus and Succulent Society of America Inc. from 1968-1970. Scrapbook #5 is from 1972-1978 (44 pages) and includes newspaper clippings, bylaws, postcards, and several other ephemera material pertaining to the society. Scrapbook #6 is from 1979-1985 (51 pages) and includes an exhibit pamphlet, I.V. newsletter, library list, and a flier/map.

Juanita Heil and her daughter Nancy Heil were significant figures in the society. They held positions in the society such as president, vice president, and secretary throughout the duration of its existence. Other people mentioned throughout the scrapbooks are Kirby Patton, Mrs. Jane Harris, and Dave and Kathe Roberts.
